About the Symposium

The Japanese-Chilean symposium on resilient and sustainable architecture for coping with natural hazards. Mutual cooperation and future challenges is possible thanks to the fruitful cooperation of different organizations.

The Japan Foundation

The Japan Foundation is Japan’s only institution dedicated to carrying out comprehensive international cultural exchange programs throughout the world. “Grant Program for Intellectual Exchange Conferences” conducted by the Japan Foundation is designed to deepen mutual understanding and to establish closer relations between Japan and other countries while promoting intellectual exchange worldwide.

This symposium will be possible thanks to the Grant Program for Intellectual Exchange Conferences FY 2018, which has decided to fund this activity to promote the intellectual exchange between our countries.

The University of Bío-Bío

The University of Bío-Bío is the heir of the tradition of public higher education in the Bío Bío Region. Its roots go back to the creation of the Technical University of the State (TUS) on April 9, 1947, and to the Ñuble Campus of the University of Chile.

With offices in Concepción and Chillán, its mission is to generate, apply and communicate the knowledge in sciences, technology, arts and humanities, forming competent, integral and reflexive professionals to answer the regional and national needs, to serve society with excellence and quality.

It offers 35 undergraduate degrees and two bachelor programs, with over 10.000 students and almost 70 percent of its professors hold masters or PhD grade. It has explored continuous education and graduate studies, contributing to the formation of advanced human capital in regions.
