Energy efficiency – Energy efficiency in buildings: what are we in?
The concept of energy efficiency was born in the 70s with the oil crisis of those years. Since then, scientific and technological development for energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources has made great progress. Particularly in developed countries, the impacts of the application of this development have implied incommensurable impacts. However, in countries like Chile, the advances, although they may be significant, are far from what has been achieved in developed countries. The country shows a strong progress in the incorporation of renewable energies in electricity generation. However, in buildings, we use energy in a very inefficient way, and a large part of the families in Chile still do not meet the most basic energy requirements for their comfort. Given this type of inconsistency, what challenges do we have to solve in the city? And what happens if we do not move faster? The presentation makes a reflection on this.
