Sergio Altomonte

Dr Altomonte obtained cum laude his BArch/MArch in Architecture in 1998 at the University of Rome La Sapienza, Italy. In 2001, he was awarded the Master in Architecture and Sustainable Development (MAS) by the associate institutions EPFL (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Switzerland), UCL (Universite’ Catholique de Louvain, Belgium), and EAT (School of Architecture of Toulouse, France). In 2004, he was awarded his PhD in Environmental Design and Engineering at the University of Rome La Sapienza with a thesis on Advanced building envelopes and switchable glazing technology.

Before joining the Université catholique de Louvain in 2017, Dr Altomonte was Assistant (2007-2010) and Associate (2010-2017) Professor in Architecture and Environmental Design at the Department of Architecture and Built Environment, University of Nottingham (UK). During this period, Dr Altomonte has held various roles in academic, teaching, and research management. In 2013/15, Dr Altomonte was granted by the Villum Foundation (Velux Group) a Visiting Professorship of the duration of two years to engage in research and teaching activities in collaboration with the Institute of Building Technology, Royal Danish Academy, Copenhagen (Denmark). In 2012/13 and in 2016, Dr Altomonte spent periods of sabbatical research leave at the Center for the Built Environment (CBE), College for Environmental Design, University of California, Berkeley (USA). These periods of study focused on investigation of the relationship between occupant satisfaction with indoor environmental quality in office buildings and green rating certification systems (e.g., LEED).

He is author of some 70 research outputs, including a single-authored book, essays and chapters in edited books, edited research publications, and several refereed papers in peer-reviewed international journals and conference proceedings. Dr Altomonte is a board Member of the PLEA (Passive Low Energy Architecture) network and an active Member of the CIBSE Society of Light and Lighting (MSLL) and of the CIBSE Daylight Group

El Dr. Altomonte obtuvo su BArch/MArch en arquitectura en 1998 en la Universidad de Roma La Sapienza con calificación cum laude. En 2001 obtuvo su Máster en arquitectura y desarrollo sostenible (MAS) por las instituciones asociadas EPFL (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Switzerland), UCL (Universite’ Catholique de Louvain, Belgium), y EAT (School of Architecture of Toulouse, France). En 2004 obtuvo su doctorado en diseño medioambiental e ingeniería en la Universidad de Roma La Sapienza con su tesis sobre pieles avanzadas en edificios con tecnología de acristalamiento intercambiable.

Antes de unirse a la Universidad Católica de Lovaina en 2017, el Dr. Altomonte ha sido profesor asistente (2007-2010) y asociado (2010-2017) de arquitectura y diseño ambiental en el departamento de arquitectura y ambiente construido de la Universidad de Nottingham (Reino Unido). Durante ese período, el Dr. Altomonte  ha tenido varias funciones académicas, docentes y como investigador. Entre 2013 y 2015 el Dr. Altomonte fue galardonado con una estadía como profesor visitante por la Fundación Villum (Grupo Velux) durante dos años en el Instituto de tecnología de la edificación de la Royal Danish Academy en Copanhague (Dinamarca). Entre 2012 y 2013 y en 2016 el Dr. Altomonte pasó varios períodos sabáticos en el Center for the built environment (CBE), College for Environmental design de la Universidad de California, Berkeley (EEUU). Durante estos períodos se dedicó a investigar la relación entre la satisfacción de los ocupantes, la calidad del aire en los edificios y los sistemas de certificación verde (LEED).

Es autor de más de 70 publicaciones científicas, incluyendo un libro como único autor, ensayos y capítulos en libros editados y varios artículos de investigación en revistas indexadas por pares internacionales, así como libros de actas de conferencias. El Dr. Altomonte es miembro del comité PLEA (Passive and Low Energy Architecture) y un miembro activo de CIBSE, la Sociedad de luz e iluminación (MSLL) y el grupo de iluminación natural de CIBSE.
